Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to serve as the lead systems administration and networking needs of the customers of Finance and Administration Shared Services IT. Examples of these systems are: security camera systems, electronic access control systems and security alarm systems. These systems are utilized by the University of Oregon Police Department and a large number of campus customers. Duties include supporting, managing and maintaining a secure, well-functioning and available IT infrastructure that allows the University to provide a safe and secure environment for University of Oregon students, staff, faculty and visitors.

Responsibilities include assisting in the maintenance of applications and local area networks across multiple campus locations, including systems security and integrity, in compliance with CJIS policy requirements where necessary; assisting in maintaining servers, workstations, and mobile devices with mobile broadband and VPN connections; installing and configuring software; providing formal training for new hardware and software; contacting hardware and software vendors for information and preparing proposals and technical reports for new computer system acquisitions; providing technical support and assistance for a wide variety of systems.

Interactions and contacts occur daily with students, faculty, staff and campus visitors in the course of performing work. There are frequent interactions with campus and regional partners, including EMS and Law Enforcement organizations (Eugene Police and Fire Departments, Eugene Information Services Division, Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Springfield Police and Fire Departments) as well as other local, state and federal agencies. The position will communicate and coordinate work in a team-oriented environment with University partners in the University of Oregon Police Department, Safety and Risk Services, peers within the Finance and Administration Shared Services IT group, University Information Services, as well as directly with a variety of 3rd party vendors and campus customers and stakeholders for security systems. The position will not directly supervise other employees, though will on occasion be required to organize and coordinate the work of internal and 3rd-party resources to complete projects or fix problems.

The position works as a member of a team and tasks are assigned by a supervisor or undertaken using individual initiative. Decisions are made within established guidelines or made about the best method and materials necessary to perform a particular task. They include setting priorities, assessing customer needs and responding to those needs. The position will participate in both formal and informal procurement and other decision-making activity with financial implications. The position will have no budget authority. As an operating systems/network architect, he or she is expected to remain current with new software and hardware technologies in a constantly growing environment. The position will be responsible for following guidelines and standards developed by FASS IT, University information systems, UOPD and Oregon Department of public safety standards and Training (DPSST).

The position will report to the Interim Director - IT for Finance and Administration Shared Services. Work is reviewed regularly by Interim Director - IT for Finance and Administration Shared Services as well as the Directors and managers of the units served by FASS IT.

Work Schedule
Typical daytime hours with occasional after-hours and week-end work. This position will be included in the 24/7 on-call rotation within FASS IT.

On-Call Rotation
This position will be required to serve on-call duties on a rotational basis. This may include responding to emergencies during off hours, including weekends and holidays. On site, response to campus is expected within 60 minutes from the time of the call, if needed. Communication is via a cellular phone, using text or voice modes.

Essential Personnel
This unit may provide essential services during times of emergencies and inclement weather. This position may be required to fulfill essential services and functions during these times.

Minimum Requirements
This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge in operating systems programs, maintenance, systems administration, and network systems that would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science, engineering mathematics, telecommunications or a related technical field, or equivalent technical training and/or experience.

Special Requirements: Initial CJIS clearance must be completed within 60 days of hire.
• Must successfully pass an in-depth law enforcement background check.
• Must submit fingerprints to obtain a FBI Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) security clearance.
• Must complete and maintain Level 4 CJIS Security Awareness Training.

Preferred Qualifications
• If using equivalent experience to meet minimum qualifications, preference will be given to candidates who have an associate’s degree or higher.
• One year of experience working in the field of computer technology.
• Knowledge of Windows and virtualized systems administration concepts and best practices in a production environment.
• Proficiency in Windows scripting languages.
• Experience with surveillance camera, security alarm and electronic building access control systems.
• Experience working with law enforcement environments and systems.
• Knowledge of project management concepts and practices.
• Knowledge of Active Directory, LDAP, Group Policy Management, and WSUS patch management concepts and best practices.
• Skill and ability to successfully communicate complex technical and operational issues to non-technical users.
