Overview
Study Coordinator needed for a five-year national survey study of K12 science, mathematics, computer science, and engineering education. Horizon Research, Inc. (HRI), is a small firm located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, specializing in research and evaluation work related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. HRI is currently seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our team as a full-time Research Associate.
Minimum Qualifications
Educational Background: A bachelors degree.
Experience in Social Science Statistics: Familiarity with applied statistics and working knowledge of a statistics software package (e.g., SPSS, STATA, SAS, R).
Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure accurate data collection and management.
Analytical Thinking: Ability to think logically and critically.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Adaptability: Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges and tasks in a dynamic research environment.
Computer Proficiency: Proficiency with word-processing, spreadsheet, and presentation programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides), and video conferencing software (e.g., Zoom, Teams)
Work Skills: Balancing multiple assignments to complete tasks on time, working effectively both independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with project management software.
Experience with programming and/or database design/management.
Experience with online survey software.
Experience working with K12 schools.
Experience coordinating education research studies.
Essential Functions
The Study Coordinator will engage in a variety of tasks. Specific duties may include:
1. Communication: Communicating orally and in writing with study collaborators and research participants such as teachers and school administrators.
2. Documentation: Documenting study procedures and processes, meeting discussions, and key project decisions.
3. Questionnaire Development: Assisting with developing, testing, and programming questionnaires.
4. Data Collection: Assisting in the collection of study data, monitoring participation levels and quality of responses.
5. Data Entry and Management: Assisting with data tracking, storage, and cleaning, such as identifying and resolving discrepancies in data; keeping accurate records of planned, scheduled, and completed data collection; and ensuring data are stored as expected.
6. Data Analysis: Analyzing survey data, ensuring accuracy of results, and documenting procedures.
7. Report Writing: Preparing data for publication, including creating data displays and drafting summaries of findings.
8. Collaboration: Collaborating with project staff and external partners to ensure smooth project execution and timely delivery of research outcomes.
Physical Requirements
The candidate must be able to complete the following physical requirements with or without a reasonable accommodation:
Remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing)
Consistently operate a computer and other office productivity devices (e.g., copy machine, printer)
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Travel by car and airplane, including overnight stays (typically 13 days in duration), as needed.
Hours and Salary
This exempt position will require 40 hours of work per week, usually between 8:30am and 5:00pm ET Monday through Friday. This is a hybrid position with some in-office work required. Occasional work-related travel is required. Salary is dependent upon experience and qualifications.
Timeline
The position will start on or after September 1, 2024.
